A Practical Stylish Alternative to Jeans

This week I’ve been working with a lot of mums and they all have had a lot in common – JEANS! I love a good pair of jeans and wear them a lot, but the challenge comes when mums get bored with blue jeans but don’t have the time or energy to find an alternative that is just as practical and versatile.

Sometimes mums use me for a wardrobe session just to get new ideas and inspiration for their style, as when you’re working hard at being a good mum, you just don’t have the same time that you used to when it comes to planning your wardrobe. After doing a wardrobe consultation with a mum of two this week, I was chuffed to bits when she emailed me to tell me that ‘I haven’t worn jeans for the last two days’ and considering she had worn nothing BUT blue jeans for 2 years, she felt this was positive progress. Jeans are practical and will always have a place in most womens wardrobe, but if you’re bored of wearing them, here are a couple of little ideas for you.

This season for me, it’s all about the waxed trouser. They’re just as versatile as jeans in terms of practicality, the amount you can mix and match with – even when it comes to washing instructions they’re just as practical!

Below I’ve included a few different ways to wear the waxed trouser depending on whether you want to achieve laid back style, something more dressy for a night out, or a day with the kids.

Stylish alternatives to jeans

The key to purchasing any successful replacement jeans is definitely the COMFORT and PRACTICAL factors. If the replacements don’t tick these boxes, it’s unlikely you will favour the replacement over your beloved jeans.

It’s also really important to ensure the replacement is versatile in terms of colour. In this instance, I have gone for black to demonstrate the numerous ways of wearing these waxed jeans BUT if you have a lot of black, white, grey, cream tops you could perhaps go for a coloured waxed trouser in this season’s wine colours for example. You will even find that if you have lots of patterned tops but many include shades of red, these will also work with a mulberry or wine cololured trouser.

It’s all about understanding the practicalities and versatility of new pieces that you introduce to your wardrobe when you’re a mum. You don’t have time very often to put in lots of thought and effort – you just want to look well-put together, stylish and effortless FAST.
