Updating Your Wardrobe for AW12: Rocking Baroque
So far in our countdown to updating your aw12 wardrobe we’ve covered how to wear purple, how to wear futuristic fashion, the military trend, how to wear this season’s prints and Going for Gold (inspired by all the amazing Olympic talent we saw this summer).
Now we take a look at one of the more trickier trends for AW12 where the high-street has taken it’s cue from probably one of my most favourite design duos – Domenico and Stefano! Read more about this AW12 trend at Vogue.com
So how do you pull of this sumptuous, rococo inspired decadent trend without looking like a high priest, or worst still, granny’s curtains? With all the decadent fabrics, lavish adornment and tapestry, it could be very easy for this trend to wear you, so follow the My Style Companion AW12 wardrobe update guide to the high-street if you’re feeling a little intimidated!
For Tall, Slim Women
Zara has managed to make this trend totally wearable with these Zara Jaquard Trousers, £39.99 which look fantastic for work with a sheer black pussy bow or utility style blouse and black blazer. The key is to let the trousers do the talking here and keep the rest of your outfit muted.
Baroque for Hourglasses
Miss Selfridge has combined our love of a peplum with a baroque print for an easy-to-wear option for just £24. Simply bling up or down as required depending on how decadent you want to take it. Team up with black or gold accessories such as this cuff from New Look for only £5.99
For Girls with Good Legs!
If you live in leggings or fancy a welcome and more luxurious change to your skinny jeans, these baroque leggings from New Look, £14.99 are the way to go. They look so cute with high-tops and a slouchy tee or jumper if your style is more urban, or pair with a beautiful black tunic, military coat and riding boots for an elegant aw12 look.
A Little Embellishment goes a Long Way
If you’d rather stick to your jeans as it’s tough enough for your to find trousers that fit because your a cruvy pear or hourglass shape, you could go for an embellished sleeveless jacket such as this beautiful piece by ASOS, £55 Wear with black skinny jeans for a rock n roll take on the baroque trend.
Keeping the Decadence rather Casual
River Island has come up with a super casual and street way of wearing the trend, if your style if more laid back, this jaquard grey jumper, £25 with jeans or black silk joggers for a sports-luxe take is perfect!
Foiled Again
If you’re a girl who likes her luxe, and have the attitude that a bit of foil certainly never hurt anybody, then this Lipsy Dress, £42 from Next could be the ideal replacement for your LBD this year. Wear with black opaque tights and black platforms to complete the look.
If you feel it’s all a bit OTT for your taste, a simple nod to the trend through your accessories such as this Dorothy Perkins necklace, £12.50 is a cost-effective and easy way to update your look for the season ahead. The cross is one of this season’s must-have accessories, but you need to have a touch of drama about your style to pull this look off – it isn’t for everyone.
