Fashion Advice at Trafford Centre: 53 Year Old Woman

Today I had a personal shopping appointment at the Trafford Centre in Manchester with a woman who felt lost and hopeless with her wardrobe, so we met up and after only 3 hours she was grinning from ear to ear and told me that she already could see where she had been going wrong. She said that in just those few short hours, I had given her confidence back to her, after years of hating her wardrobe and reflection in the mirror.

Client Profile:

Age: 53
Size: 12 – 14
Bust: 32G
Height: 5’4
Shape: Curvy / Hourglass

The Challenge:

After years of wearing bootcut denim jeans for every ‘smart-casual’ occasion, my client wanted to try some new styles of trouser that would suit her lifestyle. She was a little conscious of her tummy and upper arms and felt that she looked ‘dumpy’ in flats therefore had never bought any having tried a few pairs on and being unhappy with the outcome. She had never worn any other style of trouser other than a boot-cut.

I sorted my client out with 3 pairs of trousers that she admits she never would have even looked at before – one straight indigo pair, a pink pair and a pair of tan chinos. I found her a selection of tops that could be mixed and matched with all 3 pairs of trousers and then introduced her to a cream drape jacket (for dressing up) and marl grey cardigan (for dressing down), again using colours that matched the other pieces.

As you can see, I also managed to convert her to flats for the daytime which she now loved when paired with her slim leg jeans and chinos. I identified that the problem previously was that she had tried flats on with her bootleg jeans, and this would make her look shorter and wider, therefore she dismissed them all together.
